Indian Wedding Garments

A wedding is the most auspicious event in anyone’s life, and everybody wants theirs to be spectacular in a way that people remember it and talk about it for a long time. Which begs the question: What to wear?!

Should you wear the same suit you wore in your relative’s marriage? Or buy something new? You don’t want anyone looking down their nose at your outfit. You may find yourself thinking, “This suit is worn-out… my gown fits too tight… I don’t have matching heels or accessories… My abs are too flabby for that outfit.”

No matter what you wear, a wedding is one event in a bride or groom’s life which is the most cherish able and memorable. It’s the time when a girl enters a new house and makes it a home.

Indian marriages differ from western marriages in a few ways. It’s not just the reception or the church marriage, but it is a three-day-long process involving various events like tilak, sangeet, haldi, barat, mehndi, shaadi(marriage), and reception. Simultaneously, all these events require the bride and groom to wear new attire at each occasion.

In India, guys simply wear authentic suits or semi formals while the ladies, aunties, and girls go crazy about what to wear. Different occasions carry different dress codes, from formals to semi-formals.

GROOMS CLOTHES

Men prefer formals or semi-formals in almost all marriage occasions, but wear kurta-pajamas/dhotis for the wedding. These are traditional suits also known as sherwanis. When the Indian artists display the Indian culture through designs on their sherwanis, they attract your eyes so much that you fall in love with the color and distinct masterpiece of it.

India has a very rich culture and the Indian traditions and customs are very high. Dressing separates the men from the boys, and grooms in India wear something different and unique to define who they are.

Dressed in a sherwani, a long coat with ban collars that buttons up in front falls well below the knees, an Indian groom looks elegant, especially if he is tall. Sikh grooms add a kalgi on their turbans which is auspicious and adds to the grace and beauty of the ceremony. In Punjabi weddings, juttis add to the effect as a cherry on the cake and bring out the bright side of the groom, making him stand out from the rest.

BRIDAL CLOTHES

A bride wants to have an Unforgettable Bridal Moment in which she has to look exceptionally beautiful and stand out from the crowd. The bride separates herself from everyone by dressing up in a traditional Indian manner, her garments varying from occasion to occasion.

Depending on the occasion, brides wear anything from embroidered ethnic shalwar kameez to lehenga choli, to a combination outfit of a Lehenga in a form of a long skirt, tight choli (a blouse shell garment), to a dupatta.

The main Indian dress, the sari (or saree), is an embroidered un-stitched cloth wrapped around the body with a blouse making her graceful and appealing is worn on the main day of the marriage to the matrimonial site. Saris have been worn for as long as people can remember, and the culture is still followed. Today, designer saris with backless blouse are in style. The handicraft by the professional in this business is unmatchable; a bridal sari can range from 40,000 INR to 200,000. Designer saris peak at 400,000 INR and up.

In Christian weddings the bride usually opts for a silk sari or a western gown while Muslims brides wear a burkha or full body cloak. They may also wear a salwar and kammez which is tradition all over the religious spectrum. Garments are accompanied by matching shiny jewelry, makeup and a special hairstyle.

The design and the ethic Indian culture is displayed in all types of bridal dresses and is so appealing of the grace, the aura and the culture of India being clearly displayed. It is such a beautiful time that many Indian singles find themselves on a matrimonial site for Indians just so they have one of these beautiful days of their own.
